 Within the last 25 years, Russia has successfully hosted more than 100 international sports events without experiencing a single security incident. Each year, the city hosts more than 7,500 large-scale events involving more than 12 million participants.
The Championships security needs will be addressed on three levels: Federal, Municipal, and local.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will be charged with the important task of ensuring that all athletes, spectators and other participants are able to enjoy this event free from harm. The Ministry will be responsible for coordinating all security services and bodies within the Russian Federation, including:
- The Federal Security Service;
- The Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency (EMERCOM of Russia);
- The Ministry of Defense.
The Transport Police will enforce security at all airports and railway stations.
At the City level, the Moscow Police Department is deploying its unit that specializes in monitoring all of the city’s mass cultural and sporting events and will provide over 500 officers to secure the Olympiysky Sports Complex. Responsibilities of these officers include: anti-terrorist activities, public order, crime prevention, security of the wellbeing of all athletes, members of the media and VIPs.
The venue – the Olympiysky Sports Complex will also employ a private security agency to upgrade on-site security. |
